Dirt Half Challenge 12 November 2016
The seventh Dirt Half Challenge took place on Saturday 12 November 2016. Once again, the race was a sell out. Conditions were cold with light rain and mud underfoot in places but some runners achieved personal bests despite the challenging nature of the course, with a killer hill about half way through the race before entering beautiful woodland trails.
The race was won by John Russell of Brackley & District Running Club in a time of 01:23:06, followed closely by Greg Spellman of Wellingborough & District AC in 01:23:15 and Sam Hazelton of Harpenden Arrows Running Club in 1:24:13. Mens Vet categories were won by: Luigi Fumero MV40, Greg Spellman MV50 and Jon Burgess MV60.
First Lady was Georgina Rawle with an impressive time of 1:34:07 followed by Jen Sangster of the Redway Runners in 01:37:08 and Laura Brine of Leighton Buzzard AC in 1:38:20. Female Vet prizes were won by: Jen Sangster FV35, Fran Malin FV45, Lesley Jenkinson Thorne FV55 and Diana Braverman FV65.
The team prize went to Harpenden Arrows Running Club: James Chasen, Sam Hazelton, Emma Hobbs, Alex Smith & Benjamin Turner.
Feedback from the runners regarding the course, the support from the marshals and the organisation of the event was once again outstanding with many runners vowing they would be back next year. A word of advice: enter early! https://dirtrunning.org.uk
